    From Nutrition to Intuition

The science behind nutrition is very important and a powerful healing mechanism. Yet we often forget another crucial piece – our own intuition and body’s innate ability to heal itself. Both have a place and purpose. Too much of a good thing is too much For 6 months, working with a functional medicine doctor, I focused on the nutrition component. This was largely centered around a limited diet (to reduce inflammation, balance bacteria, etc) and lots of supplements to support the process. In the beginning it was good and I seemed to respond well. However, over time my body began to backlash from the rigidity of the program and quantity…

    It’s Called a Journey for a Reason

Life’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint It can be easy to forget that life is a journey and not see the beauty in the process. Whether it’s health – overcoming chronic illness, career – identifying and achieving your dream job, fitness – getting that first pull-up or running that first race, relationship – meeting your dream guy or girl, personal – self-love and discovery, it is not a quick “fix”. In today’s world of instant gratification, with deadlines and pressure to produce, that can be a hard thing to deal with. It often leads to unrealistic expectations, short-term focus, disappointment in lack of immediate change, thinking that success or happiness…

My Journey to Health, Part IV: The Overhaul

I was the Midwest good girl, straight A student, Division I athlete, MBA graduate, corporate business woman…I did everything that was asked of me and more, and look where it got me. Sick. I think sick for a reason though…I had more to learn, more to grow and more to give. My life needed a change of course. Commitment, Changes and a Support System Deciding to take a leave from work to focus 100% of my time and energy on my health was scary, but a major turning point in my life. Luckily I was building a support system around me, including incredible roommates who were so supportive of all the weird things I…

My Journey to Health, Part III: California Dreaming

California Dreamin’ on Such a Winter’s Day My next move was westward to L.A. – the land of kale, avocado, juice cleanses, yoga, canyon hikes, holistic healers, entrepreneurial hustlers, aspiring actors, Hollywood glamour and more. I had always dreamed of living in California, not knowing much about it besides being really far, expensive, and quite intriguing. But finally I was making it happen! I could hardly believe it. Santa Monica / Venice beach walks I was taking on another new position – this time in Sales, where my primary focus would be account management and developing a strategy for Delta’s presence in the music industry. It was exactly where I wanted to…

My Journey to Health, Part II: New Beginnings

Taking more steps forward, my health journey continued! The Surgery and Move Following my celiac diagnosis and the end of my collegiate running days, I continued on with the last year of my MBA. From there I was blessed with the opportunity to join Delta Air Lines down in Atlanta. However, not before a surgery on my colon to repair a colorectal prolapse (from prior health complications), which left me with a 4″ scar across my lower abdomen. Anyone who has had surgery probably knows it’s not fun and leaves you never quite the same! After my surgery, they gave instructions to rest (not carry anything over 5 lbs or run) for six…

Looking Back on 2015 and Ahead to 2016

2015  was a major turning point for me. Breaking down to the very bottom and starting from scratch to rebuild the health and life I want. LA has been such a blessing for me and opened my eyes to a bigger world, full of creativity, energy, passion, ideas, hard work, happiness and fulfillment – all possible in ways I was previously unaware. I finally had my “dream job” and was living in California – a place I always thought would be amazing, but felt was out of my reach. No longer. I made it. The move brought so much goodness into my life, but also plenty of challenges. I rapidly…

My Journey to Health, Part I: College Days and Running Ways

I’ve come a long way in my journey towards health and well-being, I figured it was time to start sharing my story 🙂 Every day has its new set of challenges, as I continue to learn and grow. But no matter the bumps on the road, the overall progress has been so positive, because I am finally taking my life and OWNING it. Feels amazing. So here it goes… I grew up with a dream to be a Hawkeye, just like my role models – my parents, and run in the Olympics. They never pushed running on me or my four siblings, rather let us come to it on our own. And I think that is…
