I was doing a personal reflection today on the appeal of traveling. And why I feel the desire to get away. Well, besides the obvious of the world being so COOL!
Here is my list (as recorded on an iphone note, along with hundreds of other ideas).
- Moving / walking around outside all day, every day
- Being in nature
- Staying in cute, clean, simple homes
- Meeting new people
- Seeing new and beautiful places
- The joy of discovery
- Experiencing and learning about different cultures
- Eating healthy food
- Having minimal belongings
- Living in flow
- No expectations of me, no one I need to see, nothing I have to do
What I realized is that, these are all gifts I can give myself and not necessarily dependent on the place I am located.
As much as I want to travel, I also want to put down roots and create a life for myself with some stability, to ultimately allow me make a greater contribution to the people and world around me. I still plan to continue traveling, but in a slightly different manner…I don’t have to go EVERYWHERE right now. And so much of what I crave in traveling, I have to ability to bring into existence here and now. The power is in my control and not necessarily the environment (although environment is a huge player in my life, which I should touch on soon).
Moral of the story: What is it that you want in your life? What brings you ease and joy? Maybe you find it traveling or in some other place. When you detach the activity or feeling from a location, you create a freedom to have it with you whenever and wherever you are. That is a beautiful thing. Is is often distractions that are taking us away from our priorities…so now my priority is to weave pieces of the above list into my daily life here, and not wait until I get somewhere else in some future time.
It’s not there, it’s here.Yours jenuinely, xoxo
