Simple Detox Soups

These are all VERY basic soups that I made during my Gut Protocol with Dr. Cole, designed to support die off of bad gut bacteria, as well as detoxification. Despite being simple, I found them to be incredibly nourishing and satisfying!

Zucchini Basil Detox Soup

Ingredients:

  • 3 large zucchini, sliced
  • 2c chicken bone broth (organic and homemade if possible)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1-2T coconut oil (unrefined)
  • Fresh basil to taste (I like a large handful!)
  • Pink salt to taste

Directions:

  1. Melt coconut oil in large pot
  2. Add onion and garlic, saute a few minutes until aromatic 🙂
  3. Add zucchini, broth and salt to taste
  4. Bring to a boil and cook until soft
  5. Add basil
  6. Blend to a puree (in pot with an immersion blender or transfer to a high-speed blender) – can add additional broth to reach desired consistency

Rosemary Butternut Squash Detox Soup

  • 2c beef bone broth

  2. Add onion, garlic, rosemary, cinnamon and salt – saute a few minutes until aromatic 🙂

I would add meat to each soup – organic chicken, grass-fed bison patties, lamb liver (yes really – it’s actually good!) or pulled beef, along with marrow / animal fat (to heal the gut lining), sauerkraut juice (fermented probiotics!) and more pink salt (minerals + I love it haha).

If you want to expand upon these soups, there are a lot of great options to experiment with flavors. Besides the above, my personal favorites are:

  • Richer/Creamier: 1/4c canned coconut milk (full fat, with no added guar gum if possible) – add at the end before blending
  • Richer: 1-2T ghee (don’t fear the fat!) – add at the end before blending
  • Thicker/Creamier: Sweet potato, parsnip, celery root – peel, chop and add with the vegetables and broth
  • Sweeter: Pear, apple, maple syrup – peel, chop and add with the vegetables and broth
  • Herbs: Thyme, sage, cilantro – add with the vegetables and broth, or at the end (I prefer the end for the leafy green herbs)
  • Spices: Turmeric, ginger, coriander, fennel seeds – add in the beginning with the coconut oil
  • Other vegetables: Fennel, Swiss chard, spinach, kale, carrot, leek – chop and add with the vegetables and broth (leafy greens can be delayed according to how fast they cook)

I hope you enjoy!

Yours Jenuinely,

xoxo
